Greenlooms Cottage
Greenlooms Cottage is a gem, sitting quietly in the middle of peaceful dairy pastures on the Cheshire Plain just a few miles outside of Chester. The classic style of Grosvenor Estate properties - brick with strong red detailing – rests well on Greenlooms Cottage, and gives it a quiet presence. Peter’s workshop – of which more later – frames the drive, where guests have secure off-road parking.
Cottage beds and climbers at the front of the house provide a leafy welcome, and give onto a extensive garden sweeping away toward a pond and follies, which are just ideal for post-prandial refreshments.
The front door opens into the Aga cosiness of the kitchen and dining room – the heart of Greenlooms Cottage, in many ways. Wood beams and a big beech table sit amongst the books and mementos that life has seen us accumulate, in an unfussy and friendly way.
You only really realise what an Aga does when it’s not there. Twice a year we have to let it out for servicing, and the house seems to go into hibernation - until the temperature gauge edges toward the welcoming black line once more.
Pets are welcome at Greenlooms Cottage – we make a small charge to cover cleaning, and we ask that you bring the necessary bedding, bowls and food. Dogs are allowed to run in the garden (with an appropriate nod toward hygiene, of course).
